Restaurants in Matosinhos
Most of Matosinhos’s restaurants are traditional, serving big portions of rustic food. Choosing a traditional restaurant blind can be disappointing – especially in the most touristy spots like the main drag of the Ribeira. Even one street back into the more residential parts of the Ribeira yields better luck, in restaurants such as A Grade.
In huge contrast, here’s also a growing scattering of modern restaurants on both sides of the river, serving inventive Portuguese food in the form of petiscos (tapas), or in bistro or chic restaurant style.
Matosinhos is the place to go for fish – by the sea 20 minutes? up on the Metro. It is full of fish restaurants, including tiny family ones, called tascas, especially up near the port. Matosinhos also has big, smart, rather formal places with stiff, efficient waters and groaning displays of fresh fish and seafood.
Restaurant O Gaveto is part of the gastronomical tradition of a city that is famous for its connection to fresh-caught fish and seafood. With premium personal services, it meets the highest expectations towards restaurants and provides its guests with meals of top quality. The restaurant runs a proprietary fish farm and is supplied with fresh fish every day.
O Lusitano is a typical restaurant, located in Rua Heróis França 329 in Matosinhos, it features a terrace (service available only in summer) and interior room. It offers friendly service and has a relaxed atmosphere, at about 400 meters there is a public car park. We serve typical specialties of Portuguese cuisine, including grilled dishes such as fresh fish and grilled meat on charcoal. Come experience new flavors and fresh food every day.
The Restaurant "O Valentim" is located in the heart of the fishing activity of Matosinhos and, as it could not fail to be, it’s specialty is serving the freshest grilled fish. With the fishing port located across the street, every day the restaurant receives several species of fresh fish that our professionals brilliantly prepare, highlighting among the most wanted species: seabass, brill, gilthead, sardine and squid.
